The historical existence of Surulere South LCDA can be traced to the official announcement of immediate past Governor, Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi around December, 2016.

In the pronouncement of the Governor, he announced that additional (35) Thirty-Five Local Council.

Development Areas (LCDA) have been carved out of the existing Thirty-three (33) Local Government Areas in Oyo State having been approved by the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The present Surulere South Local Council Development Area was carved out from Surulere Local Government.

Surulere South Local Council Development Area officially took-off with spitted of staff into Three (3) having released posting instruction which was also backed by the posting instruction from Local Government Service Commission. The posting instruction which spilled staff of Surulere Local Government into three (3). The reason for spitted the staff into Three (3) is that Two (2) Local Council Development Area was carved out of Surulere Local Government , one (1) is Surulere South LCDA with headquarters in Oko and Surulere North with headquarters with Ile-Igbon.

On the 7th April, 2017, Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi sworn in Hon. Bamiji Folaranmi as the pioneer caretaker Chairman of Surulere South Local Council Development Area along side with the other chairmen in the rest Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas in the State. It must be stated that OYSIEC conducted Local Government election in May 2018 and Hon. Ojo Makanjuola was elected as chairman.

Hon. (Alh.) Morufu Gbadamosi was sworn in as the caretaker Chairman of Surulere South Local Council Development Area on December 24th, 2019, alongside with other Chairmen in the rest Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state after the Governor, His Excellency, Abiodun Oluwaseyi Makinde was dissolved the past chairman in May, 2019 as the second caretaker chairman of this noble Local Council Development Area.
